Is there a difference between Classical guitars and other acoustic guitars. If so what are the differences?

I am having a problem making some chord reaches and one of my friends said I have classical acoustic guitar and that it is bigger in the neck than other guitars. Can anyone else let me know what they do? Thanks for your time and have a great evening!

well a classical guitar has a much wider neck than a regular acoustic guitar.

A Classical guitar uses nylon strings. A regular acoustic guitar uses metal strings. The neck is narrower. If you have shorter fingers, this style of guitar may be easier for you to play.

If you walk into any guitar store, just look at the acoustic guitars…like 99% will be regular acoustics..and you might have to specially ask to see a classical acoustic guitar.

Yes you are having a problem because of the reach to make it around the neck of the guitar and classical guitars are harder to play than others. You need really strong fingers , which a classical guitar uses your fingers to pick out the melody line and the others can be played much easier with a guitar pick, and also the reach around the neck is much larger than a regular guitar and the way you hold it makes a difference in the way you play also. The strings that are plastic make it harder to bring out a nice clear sound where as smaller and wire strings are much easier to play with a more clear sound. It takes a lot longer to learn to play a classical guitar than an acoustic guitar.

Personally, I love classical guitars and prefer playing them to my Acoustic guitars when I’m just laying back and not seriously practicing.

If you are going to play Classical guitar then you need to get some lessons because you can’t get the feedback you need if you are trying to learn how to play for free on the Internet.

Technique is EVERYTHING when you are playing Classical Guitar… if your technique stinks, your music will stink too.

OH… you can tell if it’s a Classic Guitar or an Acoustic guitar from a distance… Classic Guitars do NOT have a strike plate or pick plate and Acoustic guitars do.
